About the Podcast

Industrial Nomads: Voices on the Road
Stories from hard-working individuals who make a living as they travel the country to ensure our industrial facilities stay in operation.
This series celebrates the lives & careers of working people. Many have chosen a career in the industry of oil & gas refining or chemical production and sacrifice time at home in order to provide a comfortable living for their loved ones. Often on the road as they travel from one job site to another, these men and women usually see their colleagues as much or more than they see their own families. It's a life where familiarity with cities throughout the country rivals that of one's hometown. With unbelievable resilience and the willpower to "get the job done", these individuals are as determined as humanly possible to be successful. Life on the road provides for so many stories to tell and never enough time...the modern-day American Gypsy. They are today's nomads.

Thad Spears

I have an amazing wife, Colleen, three high-energy toddlers, Atticus Duke, August Boone, and Luella James. I appreciate them tremendously and am determined to keep them safe, fed, and spoiled (to a degree).

In 2016, I made a transition from the public-education sector as a school administrator into project controls in the turnaround industry as a planner & scheduler. This change significantly impacted my personal life in regards to a life of travel versus the steady routine I had lived as an educator. While having a little experience in my new field helped a little in the transition, the commitment to moving around the country continues to be a challenge when it comes to being with my wife and kids everyday.

Ultimately, I enjoy what I do and have been fortunate to meet a number of amazing people who live fascinating lives. I intend to share as many of their stories as possible.
